Teen pair guilty of kicking man to death
TWO teenagers who laughed "like clowns" as they beat and kicked a stranger to death in Eltham are facing life in prison.
Dennis Hind, aged 18, and 19-year-old Tutu Kabalika were found guilty of murder by a jury at the Old Bailey yesterday (July 10).
They attacked Stephen Miller, aged 45, outside his home in Middle Park Avenue in the early hours of August 24 last year.
The court heard the pair were on their way home from a party at 2.30am having drunk vodka and beer, and taken cocaine.
Mr Miller had stepped outside his flat to get some fresh air because an ear condition made it difficult for him to sleep.
The jury heard that Hind, of Churchbury Avenue, Eltham, and Kabalika, of Picardy Road, Belvedere, punched, kicked and stamped on their victim, ignoring his pleas for them to stop.
Mr Miller suffered multiple fractures, including a broken shoulder, crushed neck, 15 broken ribs and a broken jaw.
He also suffered severe brain injuries from the assault and died in hospital a few hours after the attack, without regaining consciousness.
Prosecuting, Martin Hicks said: "We may never know who started the confrontation or why.
"These two men had never met Mr Miller before, but what we do know is that other than the defendants no one else was involved."
He added: "As Mr Miller lay on a grass verge unable to defend himself Hind and Kabalika repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped upon his head and his body."
Giving evidence, witness Patricia McLenahan said: "They seemed to be quite amused by this, like clowns."
They were remanded in custody until August 8, when they each face being given a life sentence.
Judge David Paget said: "There is only one sentence I can pass."

This is the Garry Newlove killing all over again. Another case of scummy little yobs roaming the street and picking on an innocent victim to get their kics, literally.
They might face a 'life' sentence but in reality they will probably end up serving about two months. They will claim they only acted like they did because of the drink and drugs. Then they will claim they have been 'wronged' by society, let down by the education system, how they have had 'deprived' lives and how they only did it because they were bored. I can pretty much write their brief's mitigation for him.
Justice will no doubt not be done, again.

5 Years is not long enough They must get life. Why should they have freedom their poor innocent victim has not got any freedom. If police followed up all cases like this we could get even more yobs of the streets. My thoughts are with the poor mans family and friends. At least justice will be done for them.

"There is only one sentence I can pass" - unfortunately it's not the one that would help us get rid of the lowest type of scum and deter others from killing for kicks.
I also hate to think how much the upkeep of these scumbags for the rest of their lives will cost, inside or outside the prison.

I agree Ann. But all the do gooders out there make it easier for the criminals but harder for the victims and there families. I would rather have them in prison for life instead of walking our streets doing it again and again. A leopard never change their spots.

Instead of hanging them why don't they put them in a room with Mr Millers family and freiends & let them kick & punch the **** out of them,then just leave them to die slowly and painfully.Then no doubt they will rot in hell for eternity -then finally this might deter other low life skumbags

It makes me so angry reading about these vile crimes. That mans life was wiped out and i am afraid that the same should be done to these too sick individuals . They will never change and to be quite honest, i don't want to waste my hard earned money trying to get them to in prison. Either make prison hard no tv's, no nice meals, no nothing, and life meaning up until the day they rot in their cells, or hang them, only then may we see a drop in these sick crimes.

I am so glad he is off the streets, I mean that from the heart. He has taken so much from so many people without a seconds thought. There was no reason for that attack, he's just a [bold]violent bully[/bold]. I hope that somehow he gets his comeuppence, but I doubt he ever will...

you know what makes me sick is that non of you were even there you dont know what happened but you will happily pass judgement like you are God,i happen to know Tutu personally and for almost all my life, i would like to believe that he was provoked but i really dont know there for i cannot pass judgement, i just know he came from a proper family and was raised right, i also know that in our cultuire and country things like murder and youths beating and stabbing people or even children being taken does not happen, maybe once in a blu **** moon, so why dont you people look at your own society because it is your society that breeds the things that happen in it, these are people, have some kind of dignity for youselves and look at the fact that there lives have pretty much ended with their actions of that night there is no sympathy needed as there actions were their own and they will suffer the consequences, if you really care about the things that happen find a way to rebuild ur society so there are no yopuths hanging about stabbing people(and if u really must know there are a whole lot of peopl scared to come to even visit because of it).God save all your souls on jugdment day for the things u felt u had the power to judge!
